before there was the cult there was the southern death cult and then simply the death cult (cheery name's, i know). vocalist and songwriter ian astbury and his band were at the forefront of a new emerging style of post-punk music. they released some edgy politically themed songs and achieved the critical acclaim that would eventually lead to the cult becoming an international success. check out the songs below and listen to the origins of the cult.
