barrington levy is a legendary dancehall / reggae singer that was born in 1964 in kingston, jamaica. at 15, he was already recording his firsts songs and continued to release some of the biggest reggae hits in the 1980's. he recently experienced a resurgence with his collaboration with the 'long beach dub all-stars'.

rodrigo y gabriela are a mexican musical duo who specialize in playing fast flamenco-style classical guitars. the duo's members are rodrigo sánchez, lead guitar, and gabriela quintero, rhythm guitar. they achieved some critical acclaim by touring with damian rice after they moved from mexico to dublin, of all places.

deus is a rock band from antwerp, belgium. i first was exposed to them when they opened up for morphine at the el rey in los angeles. it's hard to pinpoint their exact style since they incorporate a wide variety of styles. their latest offering is 'vantage point'. check it out and buy some of their earlier stuff.

clem snide is an alt-country indie rock outfit that has put out some fantastic tunes. the band is the brainchild of eef barzelay (that's right, eef), and a rotation of musicians. their latest is called 'hungry bird' and hits the streets in february of 2009. here's a sample.

viva big drill car! big drill car was one of orange county’s best bands from the late 1980's to mid-1990's. their feisty yet melodic garage rock was infectious. the group never gained a mainstream audience, but they were a big influence on many punk bands to follow. below is a link to their first six song ep called, 'small block'.
