jakob dylan's new album 'women and country' is out in the wild. it's a strong effort featuring neko case and kelly hogan (three legs) on backing vocals. it's more polished than 'seeing things' -- in my opinion.

esp is a minor supergroup consisting of tim easton, leeroy stagger and evan phillips. the all-acoustic 'one for the ditch' released earlier this year is an immediate alt-country classic.

anchorage alaska-based the whipsaws are a crunchy and raw, twangy, hard-driving rock band. how's that for a description? they'll be touring with wilco later this year so check 'em out.
