kids of the black hole

during the early eighties through the mid-nineties, southern california was a hot bed for some of the best punk music in the world. bands like black flag, t.s.o.l., x and social distortion were creating fast, hard-edged music full of angst and aggression towards modern society. below is a link to just a small sample of the great socal bands of that era.

gun shy

paul westerberg's post replacments work has been prolific. he's released over 15 albums, been a part of several compilations and movie soundtracks. his third solo record, 'suicaine gratifaction' still stands out as my favorite.

just add ice

i remember seeing the v-roys open for steve earle back in the early 90's and i was hooked. they blend country tinged rock and roll with catchy lyrics and stellar guitar hooks. here's a sample from several of their albums as well as a few from scott miller's solo efforts.

carolina moon

what can you say about david dondero? he's a road worn and weary troubadour. a vagabond folk punk blues man who travels the united states and plays every tavern, hole in the wall, hotel lobby that will have him. he's a master songwriter and his new stuff, #zero with a bullet, is dope.

lucky strike

i've been listening to a lot of 'folk punk' lately. what is folk punk? well, it's a fusion of folk and punk music. mostly acoustic guitar and bass with banjo, fiddle, accordion, etc. great stuff and there are literally hundreds of quality acts out there. here's a sample.
